This old barn is waiting for the harvest in late summer as the sun is setting. It was once a habitable cottage but fell into disrepair and was too small for the farmer’s growing family so they built a more modern abode close to the main road and used their old cottage to store the corn.

Its real name is Cribarth Mountain which has been quarried for limestone in the 19th Century and this has contributed to its structure now looking like a giant sleeping. There are many tales and legends surrounding this mountain.

The Stump at Penwyllt in watercolour
Penwyllt is a most wonderful place, the silence can deafening. This watercolour painting is based on an amazing photograph taken my Malc Lawes and I thank him for letting me use it as a reference. Penwyllt is an old quarrying village in the southern Brecon Beacons in Wales, UK and most of the cottages once lived in by the quarry workers are now all but ruins. The building in this picture was once the village pub, called The Stump. There also used to be a railway running through the village, the pub and a post office but now the village is only filled with silence.

Abandoned Quarrymen’s Cottages
Where I live in South Wales there are many old abandoned miner’s and quarrymen’s cottages tucked away in the mountains, in fact whole villages can be found. Some have become unstable because of the damage done to the ground while these industries were at their peak. I find them fascinating and it makes my imagination run wild. Much of my work is inspired by Carl Ryan of Black Planet Photography who takes atmospheric photographs of these old buildings and the wild landscape surrounding them. I have painted this picture in watercolour.

The View from my Bedroom Window
This is the view I am so lucky to enjoy from my bedroom window. I look across the Swansea Valley to the Brecon Beacons National Park in South Wales, UK. The mountain on the far left is Fan Gyhirych which appears in another watercolour I have done. In front of this mountain is the infamous Sleeping Giant, a small mountain range in the form of its name. The larger group of buildings are in the small town of Ystradgynlais and the others are on the edge of Ystalyfera where I live. In the foreground is a beautiful Elderberry tree.

Ynysgeinon Rock
I painted ‘Ynysgeinon Rock’ using watercolours. This is the view I am luck enough to enjoy from my window. The Rock is part of an old quarry on the Darren Mountain in the Swansea Valley in South Wales. Part of the rock is actually very slowly moving and I often wonder if it may eventually tumble and do worry about the farm below.
The size of the actual painting is 23cm x 31cm (A4) and it comes in a white mount with backing board sized 28cm x 36cm.
It is painting on high quality Arches hot pressed, 100% cotton paper with good quality paints and is signed.

‘The Reunion’
Drawn in coloured pencils, this image is of a reunion between Crach Ffinnant, Caron the Raven and Wolf. It is taken from Justice Prevails written by Lazarus Carpenter and is Volume IV of the ‘Crach Ffinnant’ series of books which I illustrated. Wolf is Crach’s loyal friend and Caron is the most mischievous of ravens.

“How Now Brown Cow” is an amusing original signed pencil drawing of a cow created in Prismacolor Premier coloured pencils on heavy duty 200GSM (120lb) paper and sprayed with fixative.
